Fatah Appoints Hussein al-Sheikh as New Deputy Leader in Internal Leadership Shift

(MENAFN) The Central Committee of the Palestinian political movement Fatah has selected Hussein al-Sheikh as its new deputy leader, according to a spokesperson for the organization.

The appointment was made during the first meeting of the newly constituted Central Committee following internal elections held last month as part of Fatah’s Eighth General Conference.

Reports indicate that Mahmoud al-Aloul had previously served as deputy head of the movement since 2017, making him the first to hold the position. With the latest decision, al-Sheikh becomes the second individual to assume the role.

Fatah recently completed a broader internal restructuring process in which it elected members to both its Central Committee and Revolutionary Council. The Central Committee functions as the movement’s top decision-making body, while the Revolutionary Council operates as a supervisory and policy-monitoring institution.

The conference also reaffirmed Mahmoud Abbas as head of Fatah and its general commander. Several prominent figures were selected for leadership roles, including individuals closely associated with the current political establishment.

The internal elections were part of the movement’s ongoing organizational renewal process, held in Ramallah and marking one of the most significant leadership reshuffles in recent years.
