Iran Reportedly Accepts Draft Plan to End Fighting, Reopen Strait of Hormuz

(MENAFN) Iran has reportedly agreed to a draft proposal aimed at ending hostilities and reopening the Strait of Hormuz, according to a report citing senior Iranian officials.

The plan is said to call for a halt to fighting across multiple fronts, including related regional conflicts, while prioritizing the restoration of free navigation through the strategic waterway.

Under the proposed framework, restrictions on commercial shipping would be lifted, and disputes over maritime access—particularly concerning tolls or controls—would be addressed through a new arrangement ensuring unrestricted passage.

Key and more contentious issues, including Iran’s nuclear program, would reportedly be postponed for later negotiations, potentially within a 30 to 60-day timeframe.

The draft also includes provisions for the release of billions of dollars in frozen Iranian assets held abroad, according to the same report.

Mediation efforts are said to have involved regional intermediaries, including Pakistan and Qatar, as part of ongoing diplomatic engagement between Washington and Tehran.

The development comes amid broader statements from US leadership suggesting that a framework agreement with Iran has been largely completed, with final technical details still under discussion.
