Israel Puts Military on High Alert Over Fears of Renewed War on Iran

(MENAFN) The Israeli military said on Monday that it has been placed on high alert amid concerns of a potential renewed escalation with Iran, as tensions continue to rise in the Gulf region and the Strait of Hormuz, according to reports.

In a statement, the army said it is closely monitoring developments and remains prepared for possible scenarios linked to the deteriorating security situation. It also noted that there have been no changes to Home Front Command civilian safety instructions.

The Israeli public broadcaster KAN reported that Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu conducted multiple security consultations throughout the day to assess the evolving situation in the Gulf.

The heightened alert comes against the backdrop of ongoing regional instability that intensified after earlier US and Israeli strikes on Iran in late February, which triggered retaliatory actions from Tehran targeting Israel and allied interests in the region.

A ceasefire was previously established through regional mediation in early April, though subsequent negotiations in Islamabad did not lead to a lasting agreement. The truce was later extended without a fixed end date, according to reports.

Meanwhile, maritime tensions have also continued to rise, including reported US measures affecting Iranian shipping activity in the Strait of Hormuz, further contributing to an already volatile regional security environment.
