Trump Administration Urges House to Pass DHS Funding Resolution

(MENAFN) The Trump administration is urging the House of Representatives to quickly approve a Senate-backed budget resolution aimed at restoring funding for the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), according to a White House memorandum released Tuesday.

The Office of Management and Budget’s legislative affairs team called on lawmakers to pass the measure “immediately” and in its Senate-approved form, arguing it is necessary to advance a broader reconciliation package that would secure full funding for Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and Border Patrol through the remainder of President Donald Trump’s term.

"Failure to pass the budget resolution immediately will jeopardize paychecks for the DHS personnel that keep the Homeland safe," according to the memo.

The Senate-passed proposal would fund most DHS operations but excludes expanded immigration enforcement provisions linked to ICE, which Democratic lawmakers oppose.

Republicans have so far withheld action on the measure in the House, even though the Senate approved it nearly a month ago, as the partial government shutdown continues into its tenth week.

House Speaker Mike Johnson told reporters on Monday that the Senate version contains “some problematic language, because it was haphazardly drafted,” arguing that it could weaken or sideline key DHS components.

He added that House Republicans are working on an adjusted version of the legislation that he believes would better serve both chambers.

“We have a modified version that I think is going to be much better for both chambers," he said.

President Trump has also urged House Republicans to support the budget framework and send a final bill to his desk by June 1, increasing pressure on lawmakers to reach an agreement.
