Turkey, Spain Sign Landmark Deal to Export Hurjet Jet Trainer
The signing ceremony took place at the facilities of Airbus in Getafe, Spain, focusing on the delivery of the Hurjet, a national training aircraft built by Turkish Aerospace Industries.
The event was attended by Haluk Gorgun, along with Maria Amparo Valcarce Garcia and Nuket Kucukel Ezberci.
Gorgun stated that the deal signals the beginning of a new phase and reinforces cooperation between Türkiye and Spain across multiple areas. He also pointed to the growing global acknowledgment of Turkish defense systems spanning land, naval, and air sectors, developed through domestic expertise and government backing.
He added that the collaboration would involve shared production, with part of the Hurjet aircraft to be manufactured in Türkiye and the remainder assembled in Spain, incorporating input from Spanish industry partners.
Garcia, meanwhile, noted that the agreement stems from long-term strategic planning and is expected to provide a major boost to Spain’s defense sector. She added that Spain currently allocates 2% of its gross domestic product to military spending.
