US Diplomat Julie Davis to Retire After Long Career, State Department Confirms
State Department spokesman Tommy Pigott said on Tuesday that Davis will remain in her current post at the US Embassy in Kyiv until her formal departure in June 2026, after which she will step down and retire from diplomatic service.
His comments came in response to an earlier *Financial Times* report, which cited unnamed sources suggesting that Davis had become frustrated with her role due to alleged disagreements with President Donald Trump over what was described as declining US support for Ukraine.
Pigott rejected that characterization. “Ambassador Davis has been a steadfast proponent of the Trump Administration’s efforts to bring about a durable peace between Russia and Ukraine,” he said, calling the report inaccurate.
Davis assumed her role as interim charge d’affaires in May of last year, following the resignation of former US Ambassador Bridget Brink. Brink, who had served since 2022, stepped down amid reported disagreements over Washington’s policy approach toward Ukraine.
