US Diplomat Julie Davis to Retire, Ending Three-Decade Career
State Department spokesperson Tommy Pigott said on Tuesday that Davis will remain in her position at the US Embassy in Kyiv until her formal departure in June 2026, after which she will retire from diplomatic service.
His comments came in response to a report, which cited three people familiar with the matter and claimed that Davis had become frustrated in her role due to “differences with President Donald Trump over his dwindling support for Ukraine.”
Pigott rejected that portrayal, calling it inaccurate. He said, “Ambassador Davis has been a steadfast proponent of the Trump Administration’s efforts to bring about a durable peace between Russia and Ukraine.”
Davis took on the role of interim charge d’affaires last May, succeeding Ambassador Bridget Brink, who stepped down from her post—originally assumed in May 2022—reportedly due to disagreements over US policy toward Ukraine under the Trump administration.
