Report Alleges Widespread Looting by Israeli Soldiers in Lebanon

(MENAFN) Israeli soldiers have allegedly taken large amounts of civilian property from homes and shops in southern Lebanon, with commanders reportedly aware of the practice but not intervening, according to reports citing *Haaretz*.

The report claims that Israel has declared control over 55 villages in southern Lebanon under what it refers to as the “Yellow Line,” restricting residents from returning and targeting those who attempt to approach these areas.

While looting has been reported in previous conflicts involving Israeli forces, including during the Gaza war, the newspaper said similar incidents have continued in southern Lebanon.

Citing unnamed soldiers and officers, the report said both regular and reserve troops have taken items such as motorcycles, televisions, furniture, carpets, and artwork from civilian properties in the area.

According to testimonies published by the newspaper, the practice has become widespread among deployed units. One soldier described it as “a crazy phenomenon,” adding that items taken from homes are often openly placed in vehicles without attempts at concealment.

“Anyone who takes something like TVs, cigarettes, tools or anything else immediately puts it in their car or hides it aside. It’s no secret. Everyone sees and understands,” the soldier was quoted as saying.

Other accounts suggest that while some commanders criticize the behavior, disciplinary action is rarely taken. One soldier said that higher-ranking officers are aware of the situation but do not consistently intervene or punish those involved.

The report further alleges that both battalion and brigade-level commanders are informed of the incidents, with some soldiers claiming that complaints are not formally pursued within the chain of command.
