US Ambassador to Israel Set to Join Talks Between Lebanon, Israel
The second round of ambassador-level discussions is scheduled for Thursday at the State Department, building on what the spokesperson characterized as "productive engagement" during an opening session held April 14.
Huckabee will be joined at the table by senior US officials including Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Counselor Michael Needham, alongside US Ambassador to Lebanon Michel Issa, Lebanon's Ambassador to the US Nada Hamadeh Moawad, and Israeli Ambassador to the US Yechiel Leiter.
"We will continue to facilitate direct, good-faith discussions between the two governments," the spokesperson added.
A 10-day ceasefire between Lebanon and Israel entered into force last Friday. Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz signaled the following day that Israel intends to retain control over all territory seized in southern Lebanon during its most recent military campaign. Since March 2, Israeli strikes on Lebanon have killed approximately 2,300 people, wounded more than 7,500, and displaced upward of one million, according to official figures.
