Polish Bishops Thank Pope Leo XIV for Peace Appeals, Anti-War Stance
In a statement reported late Wednesday by a Polish news agency, Wojda said that Poles “know well what the tragedy of war is and how much suffering and pain those affected experience,” referencing a recent address by Leo in Africa in which the pope described his mission as continuing to proclaim the Gospel as “a source of peace and reconciliation among people.”
Wojda added, “For this reason, the Polish nation extends special thanks to Leo XIV.”
He also stated that the Church in Poland would continue to support the pope through prayer and unity.
The remarks come as Pope Leo XIV has increasingly positioned himself as a vocal critic of escalating military tensions involving the United States, Israel, and Iran.
In recent days, the pope has denounced what he described as the “delusion of omnipotence” behind war, stating that “God does not bless any conflict,” while also criticizing efforts to justify military actions through religious arguments.
