Iran Engages China, Japan in Diplomatic Talks

(MENAFN) Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi conducted separate telephone conversations on Wednesday with his counterparts from China and Japan, focusing on recent regional developments in the aftermath of the ceasefire between the United States and Iran, according to Iranian state television.

During his discussion with Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi, Araghchi warned that the current US military presence in the Persian Gulf and the Strait of Hormuz could further complicate an already fragile situation.

He also conveyed gratitude for the positions taken by China and Russia at the United Nations Security Council, noting that their stance contributed to preventing additional escalation. Both nations had vetoed a Bahrain-sponsored resolution on April 7, which called for reopening the Strait of Hormuz, arguing that the proposal was biased against Iran.

For his part, Wang commended the endurance of the Iranian population throughout the conflict and reiterated Beijing’s willingness to promote diplomatic efforts and assist in resolving the crisis.

In a separate call with Japanese Foreign Minister Toshimitsu Motegi, Araghchi stated that the instability in the Strait of Hormuz stemmed directly from the war imposed on Iran by the United States and Israel. He called on all nations to behave responsibly to avoid further worsening of the situation.
