Lufthansa Strike Disrupts Flights Across Germany
Pilots and flight attendants are jointly participating in the walkout, affecting operations at Lufthansa as well as Lufthansa Cargo and its regional subsidiary Cityline.
At Frankfurt Airport, operator Fraport reported 656 cancellations out of 1,313 scheduled departures and arrivals. While the figures include all airlines operating at the airport, most of the disruptions were linked to Lufthansa services.
The dispute has so far shown little progress, with mediation talks between Lufthansa management and the pilots’ union Vereinigung Cockpit failing to reach an agreement on key issues earlier this week.
The industrial action has also coincided with celebrations marking Lufthansa’s 100th anniversary, adding further pressure on the airline.
Low-cost carrier Eurowings was also affected, with strikes planned for Thursday only, though broader disruptions across Lufthansa Group airlines could continue into Friday.
A company spokesperson said Eurowings was managing to operate more than 70% of its scheduled flights, noting that only part of its fleet falls under German strike regulations. The spokesperson also added that a three-digit number of pilots operating German aircraft had volunteered to continue working despite the strike.
