US Says No Formal Agreement Yet on Extending Iran Ceasefire

(MENAFN) Washington has not yet officially approved an extension of the ceasefire involving Iran, although diplomatic communication between the two sides is still ongoing, according to a US official.

“The United States has not formally agreed to an extension of the ceasefire. There is continued engagement between the US and Iran to reach a deal,” the official told a media outlet.

Over the weekend, negotiations took place in Islamabad, Pakistan, aimed at securing a lasting end to the US-Israeli conflict with Iran that started on February 28. However, the discussions ended without any agreement being reached.

These talks followed Pakistan’s earlier role in helping secure a two-week ceasefire on April 8, which is scheduled to expire on April 22 next week.
