Iran Denies Any Talks with US Amid Speculation
(MENAFN) Iran’s ambassador to Pakistan on Wednesday stated that no discussions have taken place between Tehran and Washington “so far,” contradicting reports of possible diplomatic engagement.
“No negotiations -- direct or indirect -- have taken place between Iran and the United States so far,” Reza Amiri-Moghaddam said.
He accused the US of “betraying diplomacy,” emphasizing that Iran has consistently sought dialogue and a peaceful resolution but has been compelled to defend itself in response to the recent escalation.
Amiri-Moghaddam clarified that while “friendly countries” are holding consultations with both sides, these efforts “do not constitute negotiations” and are intended only to lay the groundwork for possible future talks between Tehran and Washington.
Reports indicate that the US has drafted a 15-point plan, delivered through Pakistan, which addresses Iran’s nuclear and ballistic missile programs as well as maritime security in the Strait of Hormuz.
Since February 28, the US and Israel have carried out airstrikes on Iran, resulting in over 1,340 deaths, including that of the then-Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei. In response, Tehran has launched drone and missile strikes targeting Israel, as well as Jordan, Iraq, and Gulf states hosting US forces, causing casualties, damage to infrastructure, and disruptions to global markets and aviation.
