Provided by AGPAccording to a statement carried by reports, 27 of the detainees were members of two organizations the ministry labeled as “terrorist” groups.
The statement indicated that one suspect reportedly tried to establish an operational cell in Sistan and Baluchestan province, using weapons that were subsequently seized. Authorities reported confiscating 49 improvised explosive devices, two Kalashnikov rifles, 16 handguns, 50 magazines, and more than 1,500 rounds of ammunition. Additionally, stun guns, tear gas, Molotov cocktails, explosive materials, and seven Starlink satellite devices were seized.
The ministry said that two of those arrested were accused of running online activities aimed at stirring unrest, while others were accused of providing intelligence on the positions and movements of security forces.
The arrests occurred amid continued US and Israeli airstrikes on Iran since February 28, which have reportedly killed over 1,340 people, including then-Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei. In retaliation, Tehran has launched drone and missile strikes targeting Israel, as well as Jordan, Iraq, and Gulf nations hosting US military assets, resulting in casualties, infrastructure damage, and disruptions to global markets and aviation.
