Trump Claims Iran Wants Deal, Stresses He Would Reject It

(MENAFN) US President Donald Trump said Friday that Iran, which he described as having suffered a decisive defeat, is now seeking an agreement—though he indicated he would not agree to the terms being sought.

Posting on his social media platform Truth Social, Trump wrote: “The Fake News Media hates to report how well the United States Military has done against Iran, which is totally defeated and wants a deal - But not a deal that I would accept!”

However, officials in Iran have dismissed the idea of a ceasefire with the United States and Israel.

Earlier this week, the country’s parliament speaker Mohammad Bagher Qalibaf stated that Tehran intends to keep responding to the attacks.

“Certainly, we aren’t seeking a ceasefire,” Qalibaf wrote on the social media platform X. “We believe the aggressor must be punished and taught a lesson that will deter them from attacking Iran again.”

Regional hostilities have intensified since the United States and Israel carried out coordinated strikes on Iran on Feb. 28. The attacks have resulted in roughly 1,300 deaths in Iran, including the country’s then-supreme leader, Ali Khamenei.

In retaliation, Iran has launched a series of drone and missile attacks aimed at Israel as well as neighboring countries such as Jordan and Iraq, along with Gulf states that host American military facilities.
